Dr. Ludumo Magangane is a celebrated choral conductor, educator, adjudicator, and thought leader whose influence spans over four decades. From founding the Kwa Thema Youth Choir in 1978 as a student at the University of Zululand to leading international adjudication panels at the World Choir Games, his life's work has been dedicated to nurturing talent, preserving African musical traditions, and elevating choral music on global stages.
With a Bachelor of Music from the University of Zululand and a Bachelor of Education from the University of the Witwatersrand, Dr. Magangane has combined deep musical knowledge with a passion for education. He served as Music Director for the Sowetan Massed Choir Festival, has been a guest conductor for the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and has taught South African folk songs to US university students through Semester at Sea.
He has adjudicated the World Choir Games across six countries including South Korea, Germany, Austria, China, the United States, and Russia. In 2020, he was honoured with a Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) in Music Education. He is also a contributing author for the Oxford Bibliographies under Oxford University Press.
